Social Forum?
The Social Forum is an event, whose organisers believe in a fairer, more democratic and equal world. Organizations and other movements of the Social Forum bring together different activities to correspond to current questions and bring up important social issues for a public discussion.
All organizations, other associations or individuals, who share the same ideas of basic principles of the Social Forum can take part in the event. This Social Forum as well as the World’s Social Forums is a pluralistic, diverse, non-confessional, non-governmental or non-political party dependent arena, which brings involved organizations and movements to specific actions from the local to the international level to build a different world together.
A Social Forum movement stared from actions of criticism of globalization at the turn of the millennium. Social activists and representatives of civil movements organized the first World Social Forum in Porto Alegre in Brazil in 2001 as an opposite event to the World Economic Forum, which was held in Davos.
Since that moment a different world has been introduced in different parts of the world. In addition to the World’s Social Forum continental, national and local forums are held. The Finnish Social Forum was organized for the first time in February 2002. In the same year it was the beginning of Pirkanmaa Social Forum, which is now organized under the name of Tampere Social Forum together with the Market of Possibilities.
The event is open to everyone and free. We hope, that as many visitors as possible could come from Tampere, Pirkanmaa and all over Finland!
